I love the idea of students (with different learning needs/abilities) coming together, sharing their thoughts and turning ideas into reality. Prior to researching this specific learning space, I had heard of group, collaborative and cooperative learning, however assumed that they all meant the same thing. Through my research, I have discovered that this is not the case and whilst group, collaborative and cooperative learning fall under the same learning space, their meanings and how they are displayed in the classroom are all quite different. - Group work refers to students working in pairs or small groups, on a set task that follows a lesson. - Collaborative learning is when information is acquired and knowledge is shared on a topic of interest for both students. - Cooperative learning involves a structured task, where each student is responsible for their part of the task. After much thought, I personally believe cooperative learning is one that I would most likely incorporate into my classroom. Out of the three, I find cooperative learning fair for all students, with them having the opportunity to develop high order thinking and social skills.
